On the coast, a surf consignment shop was running entirely on handwriting. It is, by their own count, the world's largest used surfboard consignment shop, and every board that came in got logged by hand: the shaper, the dimensions, the consignor, the asking price. Then someone wrote a price tag by hand. Then the sale and the payout got worked out by hand at month end.
Boards are not small ticket items, and consignors care a great deal about getting paid right, so every one of those handwritten steps was a place for a number to slip. The shop was not disorganized. They were busy, and the same information was being typed into three different places.
What we changed
We rebuilt the intake so a board is entered one time, and everything else follows from that single record. Information went straight into a digital system inside their own accounts, not a tool they rent from us. From that one entry, the price tag prints on its own, correct every time, no handwriting. And because the board already knows who it belongs to and at what split, the payout is a report rather than a monthly math session.
No second system to retype into. No handwritten tags. No reconciling a stack of paper against the register at the end of the month. Once the data was clean and in one place, we layered automation on top of it.
75–80%
Data entry labor cut. The build paid for itself in under two months.

The result
Their volume grew. Their headcount did not. Tags that used to be written by hand now print in seconds, payouts are accurate because the numbers were only ever entered once, and the owner got their evenings back. Every automation we have added since builds on that same foundation.
That is the whole idea behind what we do. You write a thing down once, and the system carries it the rest of the way.
